When to Call an Emergency Electrician in Phoenix (and What Can Wait)

Not every electrical problem is an emergency — but a few genuinely are, and waiting until Monday can mean a house fire. Here's how our crew triages the calls that come in overnight across Phoenix.

Call an emergency electrician immediately

• Burning plastic smell anywhere near a panel, outlet or switch
• Sparks, arcing, or a buzzing or crackling sound from the panel
• An outlet, switch plate or breaker that is hot to the touch
• Scorch marks or discoloration around a device
• Water contacting a panel, outlet or fixture — monsoon roof leaks are a common Phoenix cause
• A downed service wire, or a mast pulled away from the house
• Repeated tripping of the main breaker, or a breaker that will not reset
• Total loss of power when your neighbors still have theirs

If you smell burning or see arcing, shut off the affected breaker — or the main, if you can reach it safely — and call. Do not keep resetting a breaker that keeps tripping; it is doing its job.

Urgent, but it can wait until morning

• A single dead outlet or circuit with no smell or heat
• Lights flickering only when a large appliance starts
• A GFCI that will not reset (unplug everything on that circuit first)
• A ceiling fan or fixture that stopped working
• A tripped breaker that resets cleanly and stays on
