EV Charger Installation in Phoenix: Cost, Permits and What to Expect

A home Level 2 EV charger install in Phoenix typically costs $650 to $2,400, permit included. The spread comes down to one thing: how far the charger is from your panel, and whether that panel has capacity left.

What a Level 2 install includes

• A dedicated 240V circuit — usually 40A or 50A on 8 or 6 AWG copper
• A new breaker in your existing panel, or a sub-panel if space is gone
• Conduit run to the mount location, secured and looking intentional
• Hardwired unit or a NEMA 14-50 receptacle, depending on your charger
• City permit and final electrical inspection

Will my panel handle it?

This is the question that decides your price. We run an NEC load calculation against your actual service — a 100A panel on a Phoenix home already running a 4- or 5-ton AC often has no room for a 50A charger. Options are a load-management device (cheaper), or a 200A service upgrade (better if you plan a second EV, a pool or a casita).

Rebates and utility programs

Both APS and SRP have historically offered residential EV charger rebates, and the terms change year to year. Check your utility's current program before scheduling — the paperwork usually requires a licensed contractor's invoice and permit number, which we provide by default.

Which charger should you buy?

Tesla Wall Connector for Tesla-only households, and a universal J1772/NACS unit such as ChargePoint Home Flex, Emporia or Grizzl-E for everything else. Hardwired units are safer for continuous 48A charging than plug-in ones. Buy the charger yourself and we'll install it, or we'll supply it — either way, you're not marked up on hardware you didn't choose.
